What can I expect at my Dry Eye Evaluation?

The Dry Eye Center at East Main Vision has the most current diagnostic technologies as well as up-to-date knowledge on all treatment options available. With our Oculus 5M instrument we can evaluate the breakdown in your team film layers, your blink pattern, and your Meibomian Gland health. With this technology we are then able to provide you with a detailed report.

The initial evaluation is very thorough and averages 60 minutes. Dr. Day and his specialist will touch around your eye area and may instill non-dilating eye drops during your evaluation. Do not wear any eye makeup or use any dry eye treatments on the day of your evaluation and/or treatments.

Your first visit will include:
  • Review of your completed dry eye questionnaire
  • Oculus 5M imaging
  • Evaluation of eyelids and blinking
  • Conjunctiva and lipid layer imagery/video
  • Tear Breakup time and pattern imagery/video
  • Meibography
  • Receive a printed Oculus 5M report with the details
  • Discussion of treatment plan
Tear Lab
Your visit will include a test called TearLab that determines the level of osmolarity, or salt content, in your tears. It is a painless, in-office lab test that takes only seconds and gives instant results.
Oculus Keratograph 5M
The OCULUS Keratograph®5M, which is an advanced corneal topographer with a color camera for imaging of the surface of your eyes including the tear layer. This instrument allows us to view your meibomian glands, your tear evaporative rate, and other layers of tear film that can contribute to tear film dysfunction and dry eye disease.
InflammaDry® is a quick, non-invasive, in-office test that identifies inflammatory markers and aids in diagnosing the cause of your tear film dysfunction. The test takes less than 10 minutes and results are available immediately.
